Hi there. I’m a photographer based in Los Angeles. I was born in Hawaii, grew up in North Carolina and have spent quite a bit of time around the world. I love to get lost in a new place and go on adventures with my dog Finn. I’ve had a camera in my hands ever since I got my first film Pentax at age 12.
One summer my sister and I set up a darkroom in my grandmother’s basement in northern Michigan. My mom’s boyfriend had an old enlarger that was getting dusty- and we convinced her to pack this big clunky thing in the Subaru’s precious trunk space for the 14hr drive from NC. So that summer we would take photos of anything- friends and family… birch trees or the great lakes… and later we would watch the images slowly appear in the chemical bath. It felt like magic. I was hooked. My favorite part was was when faces would appear in the developer- and portraiture has remained my favorite type of photography ever since.
I love working with people and it’s important for me to to channel a relaxed environment so my subjects feel at ease and comfortable. I find this kind of relaxed, positive energy has a way of transferring to the final images. Depending on the session type, I’ll often shoot on 35mm & 120mm film.
I hold a BA in Photojournalism and Studio Art from UNC-Chapel Hill. Grants from UNC and The Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University enabled me to work on a range of multimedia projects in remote locations. Whether it’s a commercial assignment or life milestone, I love capturing natural emotions that reflect one’s spirit.
